Do-it-yourself whitewashing of the ceiling is an old, but not forgotten, old-fashioned way. My parents taught me. I want to say that even now many people resort to it. Before starting the repair, you can do a lot yourself, which is practical and convenient in terms of savings. Whoever has arms, legs and a head, let's proceed. For the effect of whiteness and freshness, our grandfathers recommended whitewashing with chalk, besides, chalk is considered an environmentally friendly product. Another common whitewashing option is slaked lime whitewashing, used in wet rooms (bathroom, kitchen) as lime absorbs moisture. And for those who, after processing the ceiling before whitewashing, still have cracks, it is also recommended to whitewash.
So, do-it-yourself interior items - whitewashing the ceiling. Let's get down to preliminary work. To begin with, we take out the necessary furniture from our room, cover the rest, wrap the floor with foil, you can use newspapers, garbage bags that will be at hand. Next, we inspect our ceiling, if it is even, without cracks, spots, you can carefully remove the top layer with a broom or a vacuum cleaner. If the ceiling is stratified with old dirt, we take a sponge and wash off all the whitewash with warm water. If the whitewash does not come off well, we take a spatula and remove all the remains to a single one, it is important that there is no gap during further work. If you find any cracks on the ceiling, you need to putty them, let them dry.
Let's start the whitewash solution.
1) Chalk whitewashing for 10sq. m:
We take a bucket of 10 liters, fill it with warm water, add 30 grams of glue (PVA, bustilate or carpentry) there, you can use ordinary laundry soap to replace the glue, having previously shaved it off. After the glue, slowly pour in about 3 kilograms of sifted chalk. To enhance the whiteness, add about 20 grams of blue.
2) Whitewashing 10 sqm with lime
Dissolve 1.7 kg of lime in 40 grams of lime in a bucket of warm water.
To check if the solution was brought in correctly, you need to lower any metal object into it, then remove it, if the solution is visible on a metal object, then you did everything right.
We proceed to the most important process, whitewashing the ceiling. You need to choose the right brush, it is better to buy it in a hardware store, with natural bristles, it is very good if you find a brush with natural algae, does not leave streaks, whitens evenly. You can also use a vacuum cleaner, which, of course, works for blowing. We brush out the entire ceiling evenly with a brush, making sure that there are no areas that have not been painted over. In places where there are joints or there were cracks, we go through with a brush. We are waiting for drying in a natural way, without drafts and everything else. We inspect the ceiling, if necessary, repeat the procedure several
