Installation of a water-heated floor is one of the most difficult ways to insulate a room, however, the most durable. The degree of insulation is set depending on the heated room. The effect is achieved by insulating the base of the floor.
Before starting the installation, it is very important to properly prepare the floor. First, you need to dismantle the entire old screed, and level the floor horizontally as perfectly as possible (up to about 5 mm difference). After that, waterproofing is laid around the entire perimeter and a damper tape is fixed. So that the heat does not go into the floor, the base is insulated with foamed polyethylene with a reflective screen. This method is used when additional heating is used. If the room is not heated, then thick insulation sheets are used, for example, expanded polystyrene. For houses and unheated first floors, not only insulation sheets of at least 100 mm are used, but bulk expanded clay.
Next, a reinforcing mesh is placed around the perimeter, thereby securing the screed layer for the underfloor heating system. When choosing pipes for a water floor, it is worth taking metal-plastic pipes with a diameter of 20 mm. They must be solid along the entire perimeter, if there is a twist somewhere, in the end it will definitely leak. Pipes tend to expand, therefore, in the case of polypropylene, it is necessary to choose with reinforced fiberglass. Another option would be polyethylene pipes. You can attach them directly to the reinforcing mesh using clips or fastening strips.
The choice of quality materials for installing a water-heated floor is half the battle. The rest depends directly on the master. If you doubt yourself it is best to contact the professionals for help.
