For reliable transportation of any kind of product, it must be carefully and neatly packed. In the metal trade, for these purposes, packing tape is most often used .
In a steel mill, this tape is used to fasten coils of steel and bundles of pipes.
The following types of packaging tapes are used in various enterprises today for storage and transportation:
- steel (usually cold-rolled);
- polypropylene;
- polyester (lavsan).
Steel tape
Steel packing tape is the most widely used. It is made of steel of the highest quality; for resistance to moisture, it is varnished, blued, galvanized. More often it is used to pack bulky and heavy cargo, timber, construction materials. It has the greatest tightening force, is resistant to sharp objects, and is cheap. However, there is a risk of damage to the packaged goods due to rust or injury to the packer.
Polymer tape
Polymeric tapes are more aesthetically pleasing, they can be printed with a company logo.
Polypropylene tape is more often used to pack small-sized and fragile goods, for example, office equipment, paper, slate, ceramics, etc. The tape is lighter, more elastic than steel, does not spoil the goods. It is highly tear-resistant and shock-resistant.
Polyester tape combines the properties of both of the above types of tapes: like steel, it is highly durable and inexpensive; as polypropylene, has elasticity and perfectly fixes the product. It also does not spoil the appearance of the goods, does not leave damage. It is used for packaging medium and heavy goods. Usage temperature range: from -60 ° С to + 90 ° С.
In general, the choice of packing tape depends on the parameters of the cargo, environmental conditions and transportation characteristics.
