An important feature of the belt conveyor is its continuity and the need for constant movement. In harsh industrial conditions, belts wear out a lot, with scuffs, cuts and tears. Through these defects, a reinforcing fabric or steel is exposed, bearing the main load on movement. These elements of the conveyor structure are damaged by liquids, sharp objects or microorganisms, which leads to the complete failure of the entire mechanism.
Disadvantages of rubber bands
The efficiency of conveyor handling of goods is directly related to the wear resistance that conveyor and conveyor belts have. Traditionally, they are made from rubber-based materials. These substances have a fairly low resistance to abrasive and water-jet wear and stretching. Other negative properties of rubber are its poor UV resistance and a tendency to form pores. All the disadvantages lead to the fact that the conveyor and conveyor belts are not able to work out the planned service life. If we add mechanical damage to these factors, then the need for replacement comes much earlier.
Fast repair - less loss
The detected deformations of the conveyor belt must be urgently eliminated. One of the main repair mechanisms is a vulcanizing press, but its use requires a complete stop of the conveyor. The loss of time negatively affects the final productivity - the enterprise loses profit. In practice, sections of conveyor belts are interconnected with metal brackets, but such a section requires increased attention and more frequent repairs, since it is subjected to the greatest physical stress. The attachment points of the belt sections are especially susceptible to wear. Through them, particles of dirt and dust fall on the lower strip of the belt and into the working mechanism. In it, they are mixed with lubricant, leading to premature wear of the rubbing parts of the mechanism.
The process of repairing a conveyor in most cases consists in completely replacing a worn-out section of a belt with a new one. In addition to the cost of purchasing a new section, the cost of installing it is added. In other words, changing sections is expensive. Some enterprises are looking for a way out in the repair of worn out belts by applying a polyurethane two-component composition with wear resistance, durability, manufacturability and other advantages.
