Steel production in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) fell more than 9 percent in August this year. Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan all reported declines in production during the month.
CIS steel production declined 9.3 percent during August on an annualized basis, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association. The total production of crude steel in Belarus increased by 3.8 percent to 242 thousand tons in August 2015 from 233 thousand tons in August 2014. Moldova recorded 25 thousand tons of steel production during the month, increasing output by 28.9 percent over the previous year.
The total volume of steel production in Russia decreased by 3.2 percent to 6,046 thousand tons in August this year, compared to 6,244 thousand tons in August 2014. Kazakhstan produced 303 thousand tons of crude steel, decreasing output by 14.1 percent compared to 353 thousand tons of steel products achieved in August last year.
There was an increase in steel production in Ukraine. The total steel production in Ukraine increased by 8.6 percent to 1,919 thousand tons in August 2015 compared to the output of 1,767 thousand tons in August last year. Steel output in Uzbekistan decreased by 12.5 ports during the month.
Cumulative steel production in thousand tonnes in the first eight months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014: Belarus 1850 (+11.5), Kazakhstan 2397 (-2.0), Moldova 257 (2.3), Russia 47778 ( -0.2), Ukraine 15044 (-23.6), Uzbekistan 454 (-12.1).
