Ukraine seeks to work out its own strategy for the development of the agro-industrial complex. And Norway intends to provide financial support to help implement this strategy in the near future.
Over the past year, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy has worked closely with investors to rebuild agriculture and food processing. The National Council for Reform recently approved a new Strategy for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas of Ukraine, and also proposed a corresponding action plan that takes into account small forms of agriculture in food supply. Norway's $ 362,000 investment will help the Ministry to implement some of the priority points of the strategic plan: drafting legal documents, conducting feasibility studies, including for forestry and fisheries, improving technical training, including coordinating the work of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. All these areas of technical areas are the subject of cooperation between Norway and Ukraine.
“The project will support strategically important projects,” said Raimund Jehle, a spokesman for Norway. “These are areas related to law enforcement, food and food security, as well as the development of the agri-food production chain and access to international markets.”
All activities, according to the financing project, are designed to be deployed in 2016 under the leadership of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. A feasibility study of the food safety system for Ukraine will be carried out. It is also planned to provide technical support in the field of competitiveness of the forestry enterprise and a comprehensive study of the state of the fishing industry in Ukraine.
“We recognize the strategic need to inject funds at a critical juncture in the agricultural reform process in Ukraine,” Jele said. "This should provide the Ministry of Ukraine with the necessary assistance to implement these important new measures for the development of agriculture."
