Boats, small yachts, motor boats have recently become more and more common transport, but if the first two types of ships are rather a whim of the rich, then at least old motorboats are owned by many fishermen. Like any other transport equipped with a fuel or electric engine, river vessels are also equipped with traction batteries, without which the operation of a boat or yacht is not possible. However, higher requirements are imposed on "water" batteries than on analogs for land transport, and their serviceability must be monitored regularly.
Features of batteries for ships
Traction batteries for river vessels have their own specifics. First of all, it lies in the fact that the batteries themselves are forced to work in special and difficult conditions for electrical equipment. Working on river transport itself is associated with moisture, and when it comes to jet skis or motor boats, the situation is even more complicated. Light watercraft are characterized by particularly strong vibration and frequent sharp turns (and sometimes flips) of the hull, so manufacturers have to reckon with these features.
That is why special design solutions and safety measures are used for boat batteries. Today, there are two main types of batteries for such vehicles, in particular:
- Low flow electrolyte. Standard batteries are filled with liquid acid or alkali, which is absolutely unsuitable for ships. The use of a jelly-like electrolyte in the batteries allows for continuous operation of the ship's electrical equipment during sharp turns or strong vibrations. This type of battery is most often used to operate to deep discharge.
- Impregnated fiberglass backing. The difference between this system and the previous type is that the electrolyte is not in a free state, but permeates the glass fiber base. Batteries of this kind are used to ensure continuous operation of electrical equipment when the engine and generator are off.
Traction batteries for ships are placed in a sealed case that reliably protects them from water ingress and failure. Special technologies in production ensure the highest reliability of energy sources of this kind.
