Cooperation between Kazakhstan and China is carried out on the basis of an industrial and investment program, which is actively supported by the State Committee of the People's Republic of China for Development and Reforms. Last year, total sales of processed products to China increased 16 percent from the previous year.
Currently, over 20 items of products of the metallurgical and food industries are in demand in the Chinese market. In addition, China has long been the largest buyer of Kazakh copper and its alloys.
The state program of industrial and innovative development of Kazakhstan for 2015-2019 defines the development of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy as priority areas. The main tasks are to expand the capabilities of metallurgical enterprises and increase the export of non-ferrous and ferrous metals, as well as stimulate domestic demand. Kazakhstan in January 2016 increased steel production by 39.6 percent compared to the previous year. In January, 345,000 tons of steel were smelted.
China is one of the three main importers of Kazakhstan, along with Russia and Germany. The main exported product from Kazakhstan is the Mineral Products group, which accounts for about 70 percent of the country's total exports. Kazakhstan is also an important exporter of chemical and uranium products to China. In addition, China is the largest buyer of Kazakh wheat.
China imports vegetable oil worth over $ 100 billion a year, confectionery, soft drinks, rice, and turkey meat are also in demand. In 2016, it is planned to increase the export potential of meat. China can import much more lamb from Kazakhstan, but for this, sanitary barriers must be removed, which is currently being worked on.
Within the framework of the industrial and investment program in Kazakhstan, it is planned to implement 52 projects worth $ 24 billion, envisaged in agriculture, mechanical engineering, chemical and metallurgical industries. This program aims to attract multinational corporations based in China.
