Where did PET bottles come from?

Откуда появились ПЭТ бутылки

It should be noted that many are interested in the question of PET containers. Public opinion, faced with this abbreviation, is a little frightened, and sometimes enters into an outright stupor. To prevent this from happening, let's talk about these containers in more detail. Under the harsh label of PET containers, there are cans, bottle products, as well as various bottles made of polyethylene. This is where this short name comes from. Here it is worth noting an important property of such products: it is used for the correct packaging of products containing vegetable oils, fruit juices, carbonated water, as well as beer and various chemical products. To put it more bluntly, this is a fairly versatile range of products of various sorts.

Polyethylene terephthalate was used as the main material for creating PET bottles. It appeared for a reason, but as a result of long experiments conducted by British scientists in laboratories. The date of creation of the substance is 1941, when it was experimentally synthesized. It should be noted that at first such an element did not find any practical application. For a long time, representatives of various industries tried to implement it unsuccessfully in any of their processes. The peak of the use of polyethylene came in the 60s, when the textile industry began to create packaging containers at a rapid pace. The main task of those times was to create a competitive alternative to glass bottles that filled everything that was possible. Soon a solution was found - plastic was ideal for storing the same products as glass, and therefore it soon became on the same level with it.

In terms of practical application, many manufacturers and consumers began to feel the effect of using plastic almost immediately. The first thing that immediately caught my eye: plastic is much lighter than its glass counterpart. Thanks to this, it was no longer necessary to carry a heavy load, but it was possible to replace it with an ordinary bottle. On top of that, glass could always be broken, but with a plastic bottle, such a trick cannot be done. Another important factor is the variety of colors used in the creation of plastic bottles. It provided ample storage opportunities that glass products simply did not have. Thus, plastic quickly became an alternative to glass.
