Thanks to the use of the most modern technologies and local materials, roads in Ukraine can be built for quite little money. The Carpathian Regional Road Repair Program has shown such examples to the state road agency Ukravtodor. This is also achieved through the use of advanced construction equipment, including vibratory plates and Biedronka vibratory rammers , vibratory rollers, etc. equipment.
The Carpathian Regional Road Reconstruction Program is expected to cost UAH 800 million. funds. The cost of building a road from Lviv to Ivano-Frankivsk will reach about UAH 450 million. Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Andriy Pivovarsky noted that the experiment of the Carpathian Regional Program demonstrated several important lessons for Ukravtodor:
First, we can build inexpensive roads that are equal in cost to European ones. To achieve such results, it is necessary to organize an open tender.
Secondly, even Ukrainian companies have the technical capabilities to use high-quality technologies in road construction that have just appeared in Europe.
Third, road rehabilitation and construction can be achieved entirely through the use of local materials.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers plans in 2016 to carry out the repair and construction of over 1.7 thousand km of highways on the territory of Ukraine. It is assumed that the financing of the total volume of work on the construction and reconstruction of roads in the current year will amount to about UAH 14 billion. According to Ukravtodor, about 80 percent of highways in Ukraine need reconstruction.
The government also proposes to introduce toll travel on national roads for vehicles weighing over 12 tons. According to the Cabinet of Ministers, this will provide additional sources of budget revenues, which can be used to repair and build highways.
