It is customary to call milling one of the most effective ways of processing any metal parts. Metal milling has become widespread along with turning and grinding.
Initially, the milling process assumed the processing possible due to the action on the part of a rotating element called a milling cutter. The cutter itself is a gear-like element with a large number of blades. The metal gear wheel rotates at a set speed, removing the required metal layer. The speed of the cutter is high and is made of durable metal for long life.
All companies may have different milling prices due to the use of different equipment. Milling machines are able to work with a small amount of scrap. Previously, milling machines were not automated, manual production caused a large percentage of scrap.
Thanks to the steady development of programming, the hard work of milling workers has been simplified by automating the machines.
The use of the laser was the next stage in the improvement of milling machines. Modern milling equipment is distinguished by the replacement of a cutter with a special laser beam. The metalworking process using a laser involves writing professional programs for this type of equipment.
Milling classification
The milling procedure does not have a specific classification due to the variety of work performed. First of all, milling is classified by the type of machine - modern laser and mechanical with a milling cutter.
Milling differs according to the following principles:
- The location of the part can be horizontal, sometimes milling at an angle. The vertical position of the part is provided;
- Type of cutter used. This part can be peripheral, end, shaped and end;
- View of the direction of movement of the cutter to the workpiece. Rotation can be on the way or on the opposite.
The latter method is used for processing large metal products, when at the beginning the opposite movement is selected, then the passing one.
