Even intuitively, we all understand what registration is. In the broadest sense of this word, it means fixing the location or state of a particular person within a particular state.
Registration of a foreigner is nothing more than a mark in the passport that the person has arrived on the territory of the state, and is here for a certain amount of time. If this is a short visit (for example, a two-week vacation), everything will end with a short procedure at the airport or customs, during which a border crossing stamp will be put in the passport.
If the plans "speak" about the fact that the foreigner will remain in the country after the expiration of the visa, you need to take care of the document in advance, which will legalize it in the future. In this case, registration will not end with a stamp in the passport.
Methods of registration in the country
In general, registration of foreigners in Ukraine ( here all possible grounds and methods of legalization are indicated) implies the procedure for fixing the stay in the country, as well as the grounds for this.
- If you are a tourist, a visa will be your basis for staying in the country, and registration at customs upon arrival, as well as upon departure, will be enough;
- If your option is the second of the above, then first you will be on a visa, and then on a residence permit. In this case, in fact, you will be registered both at the airport and upon obtaining a residence permit. And after receiving a residence permit, you will also need to register your residential address.
Residence permit: what is it and why is it needed?
As for the residence permit, which allows you to live and, in certain cases, work in Ukraine, it is of two types: temporary and permanent.
Temporary - "active" for 1 year, but it can last another year, if you take care of it in time, and there will be grounds for this. If you have such a document, you can work only if it was originally drawn up for these purposes, in other cases you need to issue a work permit. A permanent residence permit allows you to feel like a full-fledged citizen and has no time limits. A special point is that if you are not a citizen, you cannot vote outside your native state and run for parliament.
