Cardboard production is gaining momentum. Technologies are improving every day. Most of it falls on the production of boxes of various sizes from corrugated board and cardboard. The most popular corrugated packaging , which can be obtained from the manufacturer.
Boxes are glued together with water-dispersion and hot-melt adhesives. Each of these types is characterized by its own individual adhesive system. And the glue system has its own way of applying glue. Until recently, box makers used roller-spot systems. Then came rubber-based adhesives. Closed extrusion systems have been developed. Today, the fastening of boxes with staples is a thing of the past, and gluing takes place in contact and non-contact ways. There is a roller method, but it is not popular, because it does not allow you to quickly change the system for new orders. The contact method is a low pressure glue system. It has a simple glue head and comes into contact with the surface at an angle. In the non-contact method, the glue is applied at a distance from the cardboard. The method became available after the invention of electric valves. Each of the methods performs its own tasks. The contact system is used for gluing cardboard, and the contactless system is used for cardboard containers. The correct selection of glue is the main condition for the smooth and accurate operation of the glue system.
Contact method
Adhesives for this method are used with high viscosity. In them, the head is large. The contact method requires the contact of the nozzle with the cardboard. It is important that the springs and guides are correctly adjusted to ensure the correct application of the adhesive. On high speed equipment, guides are used and the adhesive container is separate from the application systems. The glue is supplied to the equipment through the PVC pipeline. It is dispensed into glue systems that have a low pressure setting to apply the glue.
Contactless method
With this method, the glue is ejected by 10 mm. Therefore, high pressure is required to speed up the flow of the adhesive and ensure that it is applied in the right place. If there is insufficient pressure, the nozzle may be clogged. For this method, liquid rubber-based adhesives are used. The low viscosity of the adhesive ensures a clean application. Non-contact systems are based on the use of a large valve and multi-hole nozzles. The method makes it possible to apply glue lines of different widths on one machine. The quality of the connection depends on the speed of the electrical valves. They require controller settings. The method is characterized by high performance.
