Scope
These devices are available wherever you need to load any heavy or bulky cargo. They are needed to strap the load, or to hook it in the following cases:
- for loading onto vehicles;
- when removing cargo after transportation.
Often used for this are chain slings . This is a special kind of rigging device. It is used for hooking objects being moved. This device looks like a 4-circuit device.
Features of metal link rigging
On one side, the chains end with a common metal ring. The thickness and opening is sufficient to hang the device on the hook of a crane or hoist. On the other side of the chain device, the free ends of the chains end in hooks. Usually this device is used for lifting containers. Which at the top in the corners or on the sides of the top have special metal eyes for lifting the container.
Chain attachments come in different capacities. A distinctive feature is the property of chains to break unexpectedly if the load exceeds the carrying capacity. Therefore, when working with such devices, it is strictly forbidden to even approach the threshold line of the chain's load capacity. Better to play it safe, take a sling for more lifting force, with a margin. You can't take risks here. After all, chains when tensioned under the weight of a load have a small margin for stretching, unlike rope devices.
Wire rope attachments
There are rigging devices of a similar type, but made of cables. There are also 4 hooks and one center at the top with a ring for the crane hook canopy. These, made from ropes, stretch more than chains. Only them, during operation, it is necessary to inspect from time to time. Because the wire from which the ropes are made tends to break. With certain technical parameters, it is necessary to change the rigging. The old one will no longer be used for safety reasons.
Also used are rope slings with single cables. Here, the load is often captured by a type of stranglehold. If the load is large, then choke is made with two single slings. Devices of this type are widely used in tape design, made of synthetic materials. There are those that can withstand loads of several tons. But classic, proven cables last longer when used correctly. The cables must be protected, safety precautions must be observed. Place spacers under the ribs of the loads to be lifted. Make sure that the weight is evenly distributed over the lines.
