Most strain gauge models are represented by a specialized element of increased elasticity, on which a strain gauge is additionally fixed. Under the influence of the mass of the load, the element, characterized by increased elasticity, undergoes deformation, after which it is enough to measure the resistance of the strain gage in order to determine the degree of deflection, proportional to the force applied to the structure.
It should be noted that strain gauges, the price of which is considered relatively low, are among the most vulnerable elements of any weighing system, since during operation they are influenced not only by aggressive manifestations of the external environment, but also by dynamic shock load, welding, numerous vibrations of various types, etc. That is why, at the time when maintenance is performed, such components are necessarily diagnosed in detail. In the framework of such inspections, its individual components are thoroughly analyzed. So, the presence of a special grounding cord is checked, the tightening force of the thread connections. The strain gauge is also examined for traces of rust and damage, the weight indicators are additionally tested, the summing boards, etc., are examined the condition of the cables, as well as the tightness of the cable glands.
