Profile pipes are rolled metal products that have a cross-section different from the round profile. There is a wide range of profile products, which differ in the following parameters:
- Length;
- Section;
- Wall thickness.
Non-ferrous metals or carbon steel are used for the manufacture of shaped pipes.
The manufacturing process consists in deforming pipes with a circular cross-section to the required size.
In this case, for the subsequent removal of internal stresses, heat treatment of these products is performed.
Profile pipes are classified according to several criteria:
By material of manufacture:
- Steel pipes (made of ferrous metals);
- Stainless Steel Pipe Profiles . The advantage is: high strength, anti-corrosion resistance; disadvantage - high price);
- Aluminum pipes. The advantage is absolute corrosion resistance. The disadvantage is low strength, as a result of which, the inability to use as a load-bearing support structure);
- Galvanized profile pipes. The material of manufacture is carbon steel with subsequent zinc coating.
By section shape:
- Standard pipe sections are rectangular or square;
- Non-standard shaped pipes can be polygonal or segmented;
- Flat oval shaped tubular products are used for the construction of lightweight building structures.
By production method:
- Cold deformation, using the method of seamless deformation without the use of heat treatment;
- Hot deformation, using heat treatment at high temperatures;
- Electrowelded manufacturing method. Consists of welding steel sheets with one or two seams.
By profile thickness:
- Thick-walled pipes (used for the manufacture of metal structures. Wall thickness 4 - 32 millimeters);
- Extra thick-walled pipes. Used for important critical structures, thickness - over 3.2 cm;
- Thin-walled pipe profiles. They are used for the construction of secondary auxiliary structures without high loads, thickness - up to 0.4 cm.
By profile length:
- Measured length of pipes (standard 6 and 12 meters);
- Unmeasured length (2 - 12 m).
The advantages of shaped tubular products are:
- Ease of installation (due to the convenient shape of the product);
- Possibility of installation in any buildings and structures;
- Low price (compared to reinforcing elements of structures);
- High degree of strength and resistance to mechanical stress (due to stiffeners in the pipe structure);
- Resistant to temperature extremes and fluctuations;
- Ease of transportation and loading - unloading (light weight).
The disadvantages of tubular shaped products are:
- Difficulty of bending (for thick-walled products, a pipe bender is required);
- Low corrosion resistance (for steel pipes).
This disadvantage can be corrected by making anti-corrosion coating , this will significantly increase the service life of any black metal roll.
