In industry and construction, pipes of various sizes and materials are used. steel pipes are very popular. They are durable, wear-resistant, serve for decades without requiring replacement. That is why metal pipes are considered one of the most reliable options if you need to equip engineering communications or a pipeline for transporting any substances.
Classification
Specialists distinguish between pipes of different sections. The most popular are round metal pipes, but there are also square pipes. Products are produced in drop-shaped, rectangular, oval and arbitrary shapes.
The way the ends are processed is important. Stainless pipes are:
- rifled,
- conical.
According to the method of production, products are divided into:
- seamless - made by rolling;
- welded - the seam can be straight or spiral.
How to choose
When buying pipes, first of all, you need to know what grade of steel they are made of. Metal happens:
- boiling
- half-calm,
- calm.
Boiling metal contains dissolved air bubbles, due to which the pipe becomes fragile and can change the cross section during operation. Calm metal - high-quality, reliable. Pipes from it are expensive, they are used only in industries where strength and durability are important. Semi-calm steel is the golden mean, it has an affordable price and good enough strength to be used in most cases.
According to the purpose, pipes are divided into:
- water and gas - used for laying communications inside buildings;
- electrowelded - used for the installation of external communications and when creating metal structures;
- profile - used inside and outside buildings, can be used as a protective cable case, laid in the ground.
To increase corrosion resistance, pipes are coated with a layer of zinc. Galvanization can occur by hot, thermal diffusion, galvanic methods. Not only zinc, but also other non-ferrous metals can be applied to pipes, which prevent the oxidation of iron and thus prolong the service life of steel pipes.
Pipes come from the manufacturer in packs weighing from one to seven tons. The bundle is accompanied by a tag indicating the diameter, batch number and other characteristics. Stainless steel pipes can be stored outdoors and in closed warehouses, transported in cars and by rail.
