How does the crankcase gas ventilation membrane work?

Як працює мембрана вентиляції картерних газів

The crankcase gas ventilation membrane is a component of the engine crankcase ventilation system that allows you to regulate the pressure and flow of crankcase gases. The crankcase ventilation system is designed to remove gases from the engine crankcase and return them to the combustion system for further removal. You can find a large assortment of spare parts and repair kits for the crankcase ventilation membrane in the online catalog “Repair kits for foreign cars”: https://repairkit.com.ua/ua/g24955812-membrany-kvkg-egr.

The principle of the crankcase ventilation membrane

  • Continuous flow of gases. During the engine operation, a pressure is formed in the crankcase due to the gases that leave the combustion chamber and penetrate down the crankcase during compression.
  • Ventilation valve. The crankcase ventilation membrane can be connected to a ventilation valve, which regulates the flow of crankcase gases. The valve opens or closes depending on the pressure and other parameters.
  • Seeing a vice grip. If the pressure in the crankcase becomes too large, the crankcase ventilation membrane may allow the ventilation valve to open. This allows gases to escape from the crankcase and enter the ventilation system.
  • Turn back to the system. Crankcase gases that exit through the ventilation valve can be directed to the combustion system, where they ignite again at the combustion chamber of the engine.
  • Regulation of flow. The ventilation membrane can regulate the flow of gases in the area depending on operation factors, such as engine speed, pressure and other factors.

This process allows you to maintain optimal pressure on the crankcase, allowing oil flows to flow, as well as to prevent crankcase gases from flowing effectively, changing the flow to the exhaust fluid.

When it is necessary to check the crankcase gas membrane

  • An hour of regular technical maintenance. This may include some planned revisions, which are consistent with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • When there are signs of problems. Oil leakage, unstable engine running or other anomalies? Inspecting the membrane can be important to identify and eliminate possible malfunctions.
  • It is time to replace other components. If you are already servicing the engine or replacing other parts of the crankcase ventilation system, you may also be able to check the membrane.
  • Check Engine Light.
