The volumes of imports with hot rolled steel in the EU in 2024 slightly decreased against the background of the growing number of protectionist trade measures and redistribution of trade flows.
However, according to Global Trade Tracker (GTT), some suppliers, such as Turkey and Ukraine, managed to benefit from this situation, becoming the safest choice for importing hot rolons in the EU, while some Asian suppliers, apparently, are likely They lost their positions in the European market.
A hot rolled roll is used mainly in the automotive industry and the construction sector. The total volume of imports in the EU amounted to 8.43 million tons for the period from January to November 2024, showed GTT data, while the statistics for the whole year have not yet been completed.
Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, this is 6.77% less - from 9.04 million tons.
The volume of imports of hot -rolled rolls for the entire 2023 amounted to 9.24 million tons, while the peak for the five -year period of 2020–2024 came in 2021, when the import amounted to 10.28 million tons.
Earlier, Russia was one of the main suppliers of hot -rolled steel in the EU, exporting 1.71 million tons of hot steel in 2020 and 2.24 million tons in 2021. These volumes began to decline and were completely discontinued after the EU introduction of trade sanctions against Russia.
As a result, the share of Russia in the import of hot -rolled rolls in the EU gradually passed to other suppliers, such as India, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Egypt, South Korea and Indonesia, which offered competitive prices in the European market.
The EU expects an increase in the import of hot -rolled rolls from Turkey and Ukraine
