Steel production in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) climbed 2.3 percent during July from the previous month, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association.
The total volume of crude steel production in Belarus in July remained practically at the level of the output for the same month a year ago and amounted to 150,000 tons. Kazakhstan produced 300 thousand tons of steel, which is 10.6 percent higher compared to the production of 271 thousand tons achieved in July 2013. Total crude steel production in Russia in July this year amounted to 6.203 million tons, an increase of 8.1 percent compared to 5.738 million tons in July 2013.
There was a noticeable drop in steel production in Ukraine during July. Total steel production in Ukraine fell 11.7 percent to 2.485 million tonnes, compared with 2.814 million tonnes in the corresponding month a year earlier. On the other hand, the volume of steel production in Uzbekistan increased by 3.4 percent during the month. Moldova recorded the production of 40,000 tons of steel during the month of July.
The total steel production in the first seven months of 2014 by the countries of the region was: Belarus (1,353 thousand tons), Kazakhstan (2,077 thousand tons), Moldova (234 thousand tons), Russia (41,475 thousand tons) Ukraine (17,958 thousand tons) and Uzbekistan ( 451 thousand tons).
