MMK starts production of high-strength steels

The Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works has mastered the production of high-strength and wear-resistant steels under the MAGSTRONG brand.

In January of this year, the first batch of new high-strength steels, widely used by Russian consumers, was shipped. Shipment of steels to the branches of the MMK distribution network is expected soon, which will ensure the availability of the entire product range and meet the demand in various regions of Russia.

Steel under the MAGSTRONG brand, the production of which has been established at MMK, is not inferior to high-strength and wear-resistant steels of foreign production. New steels are highly resistant to abrasive wear, provide good machinability and weldability. The high wear characteristics increase the service life of products made from MAGSTRONG steel compared to traditional rolled metal products, which will reduce operating costs. MMK's development of MAGSTRONG steel production expands the range of import-substituting products on the Russian market.

The complexity of the processing of MAGSTRONG brand steels is associated with the need for special equipment, therefore Mekhanoremontny Complex, a member of the MMK Group, designs and manufactures products using stamping, bending, welding, cutting of sheet metal and other mechanical processing.

At the end of the first half of 2015, MMK's management made a decision to develop new grades of hot-rolled metal products, which are in high demand among Russian and foreign consumers. Scientific research was carried out at MMK and a technology for the production of high-strength steels was developed. Last year, the production of new steel began, from which the first hot-rolled H350, H400 and H450 were obtained, which, as shown by tests, have high technical and operational characteristics that are not inferior to the steels of the world's leading manufacturers.
