EU-28 crude steel output fell 7.6 percent in January on an annualized basis, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association. The output in the region amounted to 13.428 million tons during the month.
Germany recorded the highest level of steel production among EU countries during January. The country produced 3.605 million tons during this period, slightly down 2.0 percent from the country's output of 3.679 million tons during January 2015. On an annualized basis, Greece recorded the largest jump in production. Steel production in Greece rose to more than 100,000 tonnes, compared with 72,000 tonnes in the same month a year earlier. Croatia had the lowest yield during the month.
Belgium, Finland, Greece and Poland recorded increases in crude steel production year on year. Bulgaria recorded the largest decline in crude steel production in January 2016, down 57.6 percent from the previous year.
