During a visit to London, Poland's Deputy Development Minister Morawiecki told reporters that the two countries intend to join forces to persuade the European Commission to initiate anti-dumping procedures against China and other countries.
In the case of the UK, Germany and France, the main problem is steel imports from China, but Poland is also concerned about the influx of steel products from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. “I talked about this with the ministers of the economy of other countries in order to implement more decisive measures, but we are also discussing this with the EU Commission, and this, of course, is its competence,” said Morawiecki
EU anti-dumping proceedings could lead to the imposition of duties on imports from China and ease the situation of local steel producers. At the same time, an investigation into imports from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine is not ruled out, on which the Deputy Minister of Development of Poland focuses. He noted that Poland and other EU countries have formed a coalition to implement appropriate procedures that could correct the situation with dumping steel imports to EU countries.
Morawiecki met with the British Minister for Business and Innovation and Sajid Javid. They discussed the digital marketplace, simplified regulation, services provided and their implications for the iron and steel sector.
