The command of the US space forces has reported the loss of a satellite that has worked for about two years in Earth orbit, according to Spacenews.
Communication with the Flight 19 satellite was lost on 11 February. “Central Command at Colorado Springs Air Force Base has stopped all attempts to re-establish communication with the apparatus,” Officer Andy Roke was quoted as saying. The military noted that they did not see the possibility of restoring the satellite's operational capabilities.
The satellite, manufactured by Lockheed Martin for a defense order, was launched in April 2014 and had to be in orbit for at least 5 years. The device was part of the Pentagon's space program and was intended for planning military operations and forecasting the weather.
