Ukraine consumes least amount of gas in history

In 2016, according to officials, the consumption of "blue fuel" in Ukraine will be about 32 billion cubic meters of gas and will be the lowest in history.

Last year, Ukraine consumed about 34 billion cubic meters of gas. However, after a few years, gas demand has dropped significantly, officials say. Ten years ago, Ukraine consumed 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

What happened to the consumption of this raw material? Several factors led to this. Most important is the regular rise in gas prices for consumers. The government in Kiev wants to force recipients to pay for gas at market prices. At the moment, Ukraine is moving towards this, but the rise in prices is undoubtedly reflected in the volume of purchases.

Another factor that leads to this is that gas consumption is also falling due to the introduction of new, more energy efficient solutions. In addition, Ukraine has lost large consumers of raw materials with the loss of some territories. It should be noted that the consumption of 32 billion cubic meters of gas is still quite high. This is approximately double the annual gas consumption in Poland. In addition, Ukraine is currently striving to cover slightly more than half of the demand from its own gas.
