The Russian gas giant has approved a plan for the repair, restoration and reconstruction of gas transport facilities for 2016-2020. The scale of work will certainly be enormous.
Gazprom has the largest network of large-diameter gas pipelines in the world, their length reaches 170,700 kilometers, but they require investments, without which the gas throughput may begin to decline.
According to experts, the annual reduction in capacity without repair of these networks will be significant, and may reach several billion cubic meters. For a company that lives off the export of raw materials, such a situation is unacceptable. In addition, the company claims that the program will not only ensure the preservation of gas transmission volumes, but also save money.
This means that gas transmission is hardly possible without numerous stations. In the entire system, their installed capacity reaches 46.1 thousand MW. Now the company wants to replace the oldest and least efficient with new ones. Compressor stations will have lower energy consumption while limiting the emission of environmentally harmful compounds.
