Data released by the World Steel Association indicates that global production of direct reduced iron (DRI) in February this year fell sharply by almost 12 percent from the previous month.
Global DRI production during February 2016 was 4.033 Mt, down 11.50 percent from 4.557 Mt achieved in January 2016.
India is ranked # 1 in DRI production for the month, according to World Steel. Iran and Saudi Arabia were the second and third largest DRI output countries.
India's DRI production in February this year was 1.220 million tonnes. The DRI output of the country in February decreased slightly compared to the previous month, when the output was 1.304 million tons. Iran's DRI production in February 2016 was 1.206 million tonnes, more or less in line with the previous month. Saudi DRI's output in February this year was 395,000 tonnes, marginally less than 420,000 tonnes in January 2016.
The DRI output (in thousand tons) of the other eleven countries in February 2016 is as follows: Canada (92), Trinidad and Tobago (Zero), Argentina (84), Peru (8), Venezuela (105), Egypt (16), Libya (54), South Africa (64), Qatar (185), Saudi Arabia (395) and the United Arab Emirates (275).
Global production figures are based on figures compiled from 14 countries that account for about 90 percent of global DRI production.
