The production of iron and steel in Ukraine has been growing for the fourth month in a row, uaprom.info reports, citing data from the Metallurgprom industry association.
In the first quarter of this year, Ukrainian metallurgists smelted 6.114 million tons of steel (+ 18.6 percent to the APRG), 5.833 million tons of pig iron (+ 24.4 percent to the APRG) and produced 5.312 million tons of finished steel (+ 18.4 percent to the APRG ).
At the same time, the production of metallurgical coke jumped by 34.9 percent, to 3.303 million tons, while the production of steel pipes decreased by 15.4 percent, to 186.7 thousand tons.
In March 2016, ferrous metallurgy enterprises significantly increased the production of basic types of metal products, increasing the average daily steel production from 67.9 thousand tons in February to 71 thousand tons. At the same time, in December 2015, the daily steel production in Ukraine averaged 62.1 thousand tons.
At the end of 2015, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises reduced the production of general rolled products compared to 2014 by 16 percent, to 20.017 million tons, steel - by 16 percent, to 22.935 million tons, pig iron - by 12 percent, to 21.878 million tons.
