The contract for the supply of 110 kilometers of 36-inch pipes for the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) along the bottom of the Adriatic Sea from the coast of Albania to the southern coast of Italy was signed with the German company Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH. The total weight of the pipes will reach over 71 thousand tons.
The TAP project is intended to transport gas to the EU countries from the second stage of development of the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field.
The pipeline, with a total length of almost 870 kilometers, is to be docked with TANAP at the Turkish-Greek border near the town of Kipoy and will pass through Greece, Albania, the Adriatic Sea and further to southern Italy.
TAP's initial capacity is 10 billion cubic meters per year, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters.
The shareholders of TAP are: SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) - 20 percent, BP - 20 percent, Snam - 20 percent, Fluxys - 19 percent, Enagás - 16 percent and Axpo - 5 percent.
