Global pig iron production rose sharply in March

According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, global pig iron production increased 13.6 percent from the previous month to 99.306 million tonnes during March this year. World pig iron production in the previous month totaled 87.427 million tonnes.

The total pig iron production in the EU-28 countries in March 2016 was 7.931 million tons, which is higher compared to the production of 7.457 million tons in February 2016. Germany reached 2,430 million tonnes of pig iron production, France 776,000 million tonnes. Pig iron production in Slovakia rose sharply from 267,000 tons in February to 348,000 tons in March 2016.

Pig iron production in Russia in March increased by 7.31 percent compared to the previous month to 4.580 million tons. Ukraine in March increased the production of pig iron by 11.5 percent to 2.100 million tons.

Asian countries accounted for nearly 78 percent of the global pig iron output in March 2016. Among them, China accounted for over 60 percent of global blast furnace iron production in March. Chinese output amounted to 60,200 million tons of pig iron during the month. India's pig iron production was slightly higher in March at 5.203 million tonnes, compared with 4.628 million tonnes in February this year. Pig iron production in Japan also increased from 6.433 million tons in February to 6.744 million tons in March this year. In addition, South Korean production rose from 3.644 million tonnes in February to 3.895 million tonnes in March 2016.

Pig iron production in the United States rose marginally to 2.130 million tonnes. A notable increase in production was reported in Brazil during the month. Pig iron production in the country rose from 1.914 million tons in February to 2.073 million tons during March this year.
