The latest statistics released by the Russian trade department show that the export of scrap steel in the country has increased significantly during February this year. Exports of scrap metal during the month were significantly higher than a year earlier.
In many regions of Russia, an increase in the activity of enterprises engaged in the processing and collection of scrap metal from individuals and organizations has been noted, services are also provided for dismantling metal structures for processing, including in Moscow and the region by Vtormetservice .
Exports of scrap steel in February 2016 amounted to 418,000 tons, an increase of almost 8.3 percent year on year. Exports of Russian scrap metal during February last year totaled 386,000 tons. Compared to January of this year, the export of steel scrap in February increased by almost 2.5 times. Exports of steel scrap from Russia during the first month of this year totaled only 178,000 tons.
The largest export destination for Russian scrap metal in February this year was Turkey. Russian exports to Turkey reached 214,000 tons, accounting for almost 51.3 percent of total Russian exports. Exports to Turkey increased sharply by 37.7 percent year on year. The second largest export destination was Belarus. Russian exports to Belarus decreased slightly, by 3.5 percent, compared to the previous year, to 66,000 tons. South Korea came in third with 54,000 tonnes. Korean imports of Russian steel scrap in February 2016 increased sharply by almost 32.5 percent over the previous year.
According to trade data, Russia exported 596,000 tons of scrap metal in the first two months in 2016, with an average monthly scrap export of the country of 298,000 tons. Exports of Russian scrap steel are expected to be around 3.6 million tonnes throughout 2016.
