German taxpayers have to finance TV broadcasting in Ukraine

Немецким налогоплательщикам приходится финансировать телевещание в Украине
Forbes magazine claims that the Ukrainian television channel Gromadske TV is supported by Western governments and companies. Gromadske TV, according to Forbes, is "a symbol of the information war between Moscow and the Western world." The program specializes in propaganda against Russia. It is not known how much the German taxpayers will have to shell out for the enterprise, since the donors include the German Embassy in Ukraine, which causes concern for some of them.

The largest contributions come from Europe and Canada. The Americans were the smallest donors. Apparently, Europeans and Canadians are most worried that the Russians could beat them at their own game, so they are willing to fund this company. Some of the donations are harmless and are aimed at training young reporters. But donations from the European Commission (European Commission's Delegation to Ukraine) are the largest in terms of volume and are especially interesting, given the anti-Russian direction of Hromadsky's news.

The channel was created by 43-year-old Ukrainian journalist Roman Skrypin, who, at the height of the Euromaidan movement in 2013, showed solidarity with the demonstrators, and the channel has grown into one of the most popular pro-European broadcast media. As a result, Skrypin allegedly stole about $ 250,000 from an Internet media company he himself created. As a result, the channel is suing its ex-director.

Interestingly, in the US, UK and Germany, concern is expressed about the impact of Russian television on public opinion in Ukraine and abroad. The West is investing in promoting its official storyline to influence public opinion, just as the Russians do.
