Polish metallurgy suffers from high electricity prices

Polish factories pay twice as much for energy as German factories. This was noted by the participants of the Metallurgy meeting at the European Economic Congress. It was noted that energy in neighboring EU countries is much cheaper than ours.

According to a PGE report, in the fourth quarter of last year, the difference in black energy bought on the stock exchange could be as much as 45-50 percent. This is one of the elements. For several months, there has been a constructive dialogue with the government, as it is important to have a systematic economic policy. Feed-in tariffs for energy-intensive industries have been set in such a way that, in principle, only a few companies in Poland can benefit from them. But there are still many subsidies, however, Polish metallurgists pay twice as much for energy than German steel mills, which look at the economy in an integrated manner, taking into account the interconnection and supply chain.

CMC Corporation invested 1.7 billion in the plant in Zawiercie, as a result, in 12 years, the entire metallurgical plant was practically rebuilt. Instead of two electric ovens, we now have one, and its operating parameters are among the top ten in the world. A new continuous casting line is currently under construction. Another threat to Polish metallurgists is the generation gap, since most of the people with technical education are specialists who received education in the previous regime, whose age is approaching retirement and there is already an urgent need to train their successors.
