Russia warns of the threat to Ukrainian nuclear power plants from the use of fuel from the United States

Россия предупреждает об угрозе для украинских АЭС использования топлива из США
Russia has warned of the possibility of accidents at nuclear power plants in Ukraine in connection with the use of fuel by the American company Westinghouse. The Ukrainian side assures that there is no danger. Westinghouse is the American division of the Japanese company Toshiba. Previously, Ukraine received mainly Russian fuel.

“There are legitimate concerns about the supply of fuel from foreign manufacturers, including Westinghouse, in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of reactors of Soviet and Russian origin,” said Mikhail Ulyanov, director of the arms control department at the Russian Foreign Ministry. According to Ulyanov, the risks are also increasing because "the Ukrainian side has introduced rules that allow for a reduction in electricity production, despite the fact that these reactors are not designed for such an application."

And to save electricity, it is advisable to use lighting equipment with low energy consumption, and for this it is best to buy led lamp from TM BRILLE. The BRILLE company has been working on the Ukrainian market for many years. Its product range includes street lamps and light bulbs, chandeliers and sconces, floor and table lamps, LED panels and spotlights, as well as industrial and fluorescent lighting fixtures.

“In the past, attempts to use non-Russian fuel have led to the destruction of the power plant,” he added. and the threat increases with the use of foreign experimental fuel. "
Experiments using Westinghouse fuel in Ukraine began in 2005 at the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant, but they were suspended in 2012 after the discovery of irregularities in the operation of the reactors. In 2014, the use of American fuel resumed. In the same year, after a pro-Western government came to power in Kiev, Ukraine signed an agreement with Westinghouse until 2020, which aimed to reduce dependence on nuclear fuel supplies from Russia.

In mid-June, in the presence of a high-level US delegation, fuel from Westinghouse began to be used at a Ukrainian power plant in Zaporozhye. Serhiy Boyko, director of the Ukrainian nuclear sector inspection, says the warnings from the Russian side are unfounded. “Diversification of nuclear fuel supplies for Ukrainian power plants is carried out in strict accordance with national nuclear safety standards and the requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency,” Boyko said.
