Over the past two weeks, Turkish President Erdogan has sent two letters to his Russian counterpart Putin, indicating Ankara's intention to normalize relations with Russia.
After Turkey shot down a Russian plane, the country's authorities said they did not intend to spoil relations with Russia, but, according to Moscow, Ankara did not take any significant steps to normalize relations.
The second letter, the content of which, in principle, did not include the words of apology, as the Turkish presidential administration said, the media assessed as an apology from Turkey for the downed Su-24 plane. Experts believe that this is a political move on both sides, aimed at the public of both countries.
It can be concluded that the parties actually took the first step to resolve the crisis in relations through dialogue and thereby closed the possibility of more serious consequences in the region. The normalization of relations between Moscow and Ankara is primarily beneficial to both countries from a political and economic point of view.
It is clear that the parties have specific misunderstandings on some issues of resolving the Syrian crisis and will not change their foreign policy. However, the two countries will be able to finally solve a number of serious problems in the Middle East, the continuation of which is rather dangerous.
But, not only the solution of issues in Syria and Iraq will stimulate the countries to restore relations. First of all, it is worth considering the economic opportunities of Turkey and the energy potential of Russia, which can play an important role for Europe.
Improving relations between Russia and Turkey will help solve many problems
