The Ukrainian authorities have approved measures restricting the freedom of transportation of transit goods from Russia. The decision, announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman, also provides for the extension of counter-sanctions against goods produced in the territory of the Russian Federation until the end of 2017.
Among the goods subject to the embargo are food products (meat, dairy products, fish, bakery and confectionery products, etc.), as well as various consumer goods (shampoos, gels, etc.) produced in Russia. At the same time, barcode on the packaging does not indicate the country of origin of the goods, but only determines the country (first digits of the barcode) in which it is registered ... While the company itself decides in which country to register. Ukraine, among other things, has banned the import of Russian manufactured goods such as diesel locomotives, equipment and devices for the railways.
Ukraine will extend restrictions on the import of goods of Russian origin, imposed at the end of December 2015. Then the Ukrainian government declared these measures "protective", as well as in response to previous actions taken by the Russian Federation: a ban on the import of products of Ukrainian origin, as well as restrictions on the freedom of transit of Ukrainian goods (especially to Central Asian countries).
The free trade agreement between Russia and Ukraine was belatedly suspended. The new decision was made by the government "in order to ensure the national security of Ukraine in response to the continuation of measures by the Russian Federation, including bans and restrictions on trade with Ukraine."
