India is set to bypass Japan and become the world's second largest steel producer by December this year, the chairman of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) in Delhi said.
However, this would require the implementation of the Greenfield or Brownfield projects that will help India reach the ambitious target of 300 million tonnes, added Malhotra, who also served as chairman and managing director of the state-owned MOIL mine.
“It should not be forgotten that steel for the strategic defense sector, including naval ships, frigates, nuclear reactors and ISRO spacecraft, is now imported in India for almost all of these specialty products,” he added.
MMV is organizing the 11th International Exhibition and Conference (MMMM 2016) in the capital of the country next week. More than 300 exhibits from 25 countries of the world, including China, France, Germany, Russia, Great Britain and the USA, will take part in this event.
The exhibition will bring together representatives from the Ministry of Steel, Mines, Geosciences, Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, Heavy Industry and State Enterprises, Small and Medium Enterprises.
