On the evening of July 15, the Turkish authorities announced that a military coup attempt had taken place in the country. At the same time, a group of servicemen announced the transfer of power to them. However, the coup attempt failed.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the death toll in the coup attempt was 246, excluding the coup, and more than 2,000 were injured. Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in Turkey on July 20.
