The first US LNG tanker arrives at the Jantian port in southern China. Thus, the Americans are giving up the glove of the local market supplier of raw materials.
Interestingly, the US LNG tanker was originally supposed to sail for South America, but changed course after the Chinese recipient offered a better price. The Chinese gas market continues to grow despite a noticeable slowdown in the local economy. In the first half of 2016, LNG supplies to China increased by 21 percent.
According to experts, delivery is a kind of trial option. However, it is entirely possible that the United States will become a major player in the Chinese gas market. First of all, this will depend on the launch of the expanded Panama Canal, which will provide a faster route to China.
With the expansion of the channel, the cost of transporting liquefied natural gas to China, Korea and Japan will be cheaper by about $ 25 per 1000 m3. The route to each of these countries will be shortened by 20-23 days (in both directions).
