Korean steel giant POSCO Co opens its first automotive steel plate plant in Southeast Asia. The plant is expected to be able to offer high quality steel products for the automotive industry at the most affordable prices. The company began construction of a $ 300 million plant in September 2014.
The factory is located at Amanta City Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, approximately 140 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, Thailand. It is in close proximity to the production lines of major automakers and the key logistics hub of Laem Chabang Port of Thailand.
The new plant will have a production capacity of 450,000 tons per year of galvanized steel sheets used in the production of automobiles. Posco's continuous galvanizing line will supply automotive sheets to the world's leading car manufacturers, including Toyota, Nissan and Ford, which have factories in Thailand.
It is the third automotive steel mill in the region. The remaining two plants in the region are owned by subsidiaries JFE Steel and Nippon Steel with production capacities of 400,000 tonnes and 360,000 tonnes per year, respectively.
