The Poles are interested in the construction of a border gas hub in order to carry out supplies to Ukraine. The possibility of gas transmission can be very beneficial for this country. Ukraine has to import about half of the consumed gas volume (the rest comes from its own production).
Currently, the main destinations for Ukraine's imports are Hungary and Slovakia. However, Kiev has objections, especially in the case of the Hungarians. Budapest communicates quite closely with Moscow, so the future may be uncertain. Therefore, the greatest interest for Ukraine is in the Polish direction.
Moreover, in fact, both from Slovakia and from Hungary Russian gas is pumped into Ukraine. Diversification of directions is ensured, but not a source of gas supplies. Poland wants to import large quantities of local gas from Norway in the future. An LNG terminal is also operating. All this makes Poland an interesting alternative for Kiev.
When can a gas pipeline to Ukraine appear? In an interview, Gaz-System President Tomasz Stempen admitted that this is an interesting idea. But in fact he did not say anything. However, there are suggestions that construction could be carried out at the turn of this and the next decade.
Poland wants to become one of the main gas suppliers to Ukraine
