According to the World Bureau of Metals Statistics (WBMS), a deficit of 89,500 tons remained in the global nickel market in January-July 2016. While in 2015 there was 45,200 tons of oversupply, this year it is in short supply.
World nickel production in July was 152,400 tons and consumption reached 164,100 tons. The London Metal Exchange (LME) reported that the decline in inventories at the end of July was 68,400 tons lower than at the end of last year.
