China, Japan and India produced nearly 64 percent of the world's 134.1 million tonnes of steel in August, data from the World Steel Association showed. Global crude steel production from 66 countries reporting to the association data rose 1.9 percent to 134.1 million tonnes last month compared to August 2015, according to the WSA.
Steel production in China in August was 68.6 tons, an increase of 3 percent over the corresponding period last year. Japan produced 8.9 million tons of steel, up 1.5 percent over the same period last year, while India produced 8.1 million tons of steel, up 9.4 percent.
Together, these three countries ensured the production of 85.6 million tons of metal against the world production of 134.1 million tons. China is the world's largest steel producer, followed by Japan and India. Another major steel producer from Asia is South Korea, which increased output by 1.8 percent in August to 5.9 million tonnes compared to August 2015.
Collectively, Asia accounted for about 70 percent of global steel production last month.
