In the first eight months of 2016, steel imports from China increased to 1.83 million tonnes, up 21.7 percent year on year, according to the Turkish Steel Manufacturers Association (TCUD).
Import of billets from China increased significantly, by 86.6 percent, to 981,827 tons. Imports of rolled steel from China reached 235,263 tons, an increase of 78.2 percent year on year.
Turkey's total steel imports in January-August 2016 increased by 1.7 percent to 12.7 million tons per year. Imports of strip steel increased 8.9 percent to 6.1 million tonnes on an annualized basis, but imports of semi-finished steel products fell 10.6 percent to 4.6 million tonnes.
