According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, crude steel production in the 66 member countries was 132.909 million tonnes in September this year, an increase of 2.0% from 130.272 million tonnes in the same month a year earlier.
Crude steel production in the Americas dropped significantly during September this year. Total steel output fell 4.2% to 3.274 million tonnes. North American crude steel production fell 4.7% in September. The output amounted to 8.943 million tons during the month.
Crude steel production in Asia in September 2016 increased by 3.7% year-on-year. The EU-28 recorded a slight 1.7% decline in crude steel production in September this year. CIS output declined 3.5% during the month.
Crude steel production in the African region rose 2.4% in September year-on-year. Crude steel production in the Middle East region rose 6.3% during the month. In addition, Oceania recorded a 5.5% jump in steel output.
