Kiev announced that it will use hydraulic fracturing technology, but this is not for shale gas production, but to improve the efficiency of traditional fields.
For Ukraine, the increase in gas production is a matter of national security. Ukrainians want to reduce their dependence on imported gas. Since, without buying raw materials from Russia, they are forced to import gas from the European Union (through the territory of Poland, Slovakia and Hungary).
Therefore, the reluctance to produce shale gas can be surprising. However, keep in mind that Kiev does not have too many free resources and simply cannot afford to develop expensive mining methods that do not guarantee success.
Ukraine will allocate money for the classic fields being exploited. This gas production in Ukraine will amount to about 20 billion m3 this year, (five times more than in Poland).
