On Friday, a meeting of EU trade ministers took place. They noted the need to defend their interests, especially in the case of dumping. “Today we have taken a step towards reaching an agreement by the end of this year,” the ministers said after the meeting.
Proposals to strengthen defense trading instruments provide an opportunity to impose high anti-dumping duties on steel products, including those from China. So far, the EU Council has been divided on this issue. The project has been locked. The opponents of very high anti-dumping duties were the countries traditionally speaking in favor of free trade: Great Britain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, as well as small EU countries such as Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Malta, Ireland and Slovakia.
Many thousands of demonstrations in Brussels led to the EU leaders at the October EU summit agreeing that there should be an adequate confrontation with unfair commercial practices, which need effective tools.
