The latest trade data published by the Federal Customs Service of Russia shows that the export of ferrous scrap in the country over the eight months of this year has slightly decreased compared to the corresponding period in 2015. At the same time, the volume of exports during August 2016 fell to the lowest level of 415,000 tons since January this year and declined 3% year on year.
Turkey was the largest export destination for Russian scrap in August. Russian exports to Turkey reached 182,000 tons, accounting for almost 44% of total Russian exports. Russian exports to Turkey rose sharply by 16.7% year on year. The second largest export of scrap metal was Belarus, although Russian exports to Belarus fell sharply by 43.1% from the previous year to 79,000 tons.
Exports of scrap ferrous metals from Russia amounted to 3.665 million tons during the first eight months of this year. At the same time, exports decreased slightly by 1.8% compared with exports of 3.732 million tons in January-August 2015. The country's exports of scrap metal averaged 458,000 tons per month. Based on the current level, the country's ferrous scrap exports are estimated to be around 5.500 million tonnes throughout 2016.
