Data from the US Department of Commerce for September this year show a significant decrease in the export of ferrous scrap compared to the previous month. At the same time, exports also fell by almost 5% compared to the same month a year earlier. However, cumulative exports for the first nine months of this year rose 9% from a year earlier.
The country's ferrous scrap exports retreated to 1.12 million tonnes in September from the highs of 1.295 million tonnes recorded in August. Deliveries from the country decreased by more than 13% in a month. Exports amounted to 9.095 million tons in the first nine months of this year. The total export value rose 8.5% year on year to $ 299.4 million in January-September 2016.
Turkey was the largest importer of American ferrous metal scrap during the month. Turkey's imports from the US totaled 268,000 tonnes, accounting for nearly a quarter of the total US shipments. The second largest export destination for US scrap metal was Mexico. Mexican imports totaled 188,000 tons. In third place was Taiwan with a total import volume of 126,000 tons during the month.
