According to the latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel output of the 66 member countries was 136.523 million tonnes. In October this year, output increased 3.3% from 132.128 million tonnes produced in the same month a year earlier.
Crude steel production in the EU-28 region recorded a slight increase in volume of 0.3% in October this year. The output of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) also increased by 0.3% during the month. In addition, Oceania recorded a 6.8% jump in steel output. During October 2016, the countries of the Middle East increased production by more than 19% on a year.
Crude steel output by South American countries dropped significantly during October this year. Total monthly output decreased by 10.6% to 3.514 million tonnes. Crude steel production in North America increased 1.6% year-on-year during October to 9.122 million tonnes during the month.
Asian crude steel output rose 4.2% year-on-year during October 2016. There was a 17.2% jump in crude steel production in the African region in October on an annualized basis.
